hi!
I think I need to preface this post with a disclaimer: I am NOT a style blogger. Though I relentlessly read others' lovely style blogs and fawn over photos of the well-dressed, it's just not in my blood. Ok, ok, I went through a serious Livejournal rating community phase as a teen during which I lived to take self shots but THOSE DAYS ARE OVER! I find myself to be painfully awkward in photos which is probably why I even crop my head out of photos for young captive. To be honest, I think I'm a person who has an eye for style but doesn't necessarily implement my own taste properly in how I dress. I'm very fond of my jeans and whatever slouchy sweatshirt or tee might be around. Despite my perusal of pretty dresses and blouses and etc. etc. etc on the internet, despite my drawings of girls with endless quantities of peter pan collars, I dress like a bit of a slob. Now, this is all well and good for a work-from-home artist, student, or whatever you might call me but I also happen to have a day job at a law firm. I usually turn up to the office in my black skinny jeans (hoping people will think they're just black pants), some manner of v-neck and a cardigan. My good friend and co-worker Stef is in the same boat. We like pretty things but our love of flopping around in cozy-wear wins 9 times out of 10.Since it's a new year and all (yeah yeah, resolutions shmesolutions) Stef and I have decided to pick ONE day a week and put some more thought into our work wear. I started out today and took the photos before I left the house this morning since Stef wasn't on board yet, but in the future hopefully I'll be bringing my camera to work once a week and documenting our efforts!
So. Without further ado, I give you the first ever installment of WORK WEAR! (Alternate title: oh god I really don't know how to pose and is this skirt as unflattering as I think it is?!)
tompa's bum, in case you wanted to see it.
outfit details:
pussybow blouse - vintage
skirt - zara
boots - aldo
tote bag - forestbound on etsy (i'm obsessed with this bag)
+ little vintage basset hound brooch on bag & owl ring from aldo on my finger!
OH and yes, it's also pretty embarrassing that I have my own work framed in my apartment. The truth is that I put it up to take Etsy photos a while ago and haven't gotten around to taking it back down! I promise I'm not totally conceited..

i love your work. i'd frame it if it was mine too! also, i have the same bag and i'm obsessed with it. i have so many other nice bags but i can never break away from the tote, especially now that i have this one. and don't feel silly! you look adorable and i like to see outfit photos from anyone! i try to do ~style blogs~ but it's mostly for posterity for me.
Olivia,
i've just come over from the Project Re-Style feature at Elsie's. I love what you did to that dress and then was taking a wonder around your blog to see the white one as well. so rad! congrats on the feature. your blog is great.
i think it's pretty awesome you two have found a way to make work wear fun day. your 1st installment is really cute. and i adore your kitteh. i don't think it's embarrassing at all to hang your own pieces, it brings more "you" into your home. if i was that talented i'd do the same thing.
happiness to find you from a fellow canadian girl. ♥
bethany - isn't this bag amazing?! the softness of the straps gets me every time. i almost bought the natural canvas one when she had a second $50 sale but i think i'll save up and get a big one someday instead. you're too sweet and i totally get self-shots as posterity. i'm not against the idea of them at all, just feel a bit uncomfortable doing them myself!
lynn - thanks so much! us canadians have it rough for work winter wear (when i'm outside it's all sorels and massive parkas) but i'm excited to keep doing this anyway. here's hoping i stick to it!
haha nicely put. it's interesting this paradox you write about. i guess its no different to having an appreciation of good music but not really being musically talented (this is how i'm relating this post yahooooooo). your one day a week thing sounds like a great idea. hope you had a good christmas and new year. xx
I have a similar work-wear goal! I find myself in jeans, button ups and cardigans all the time, and it's boring. I can't wait to see what you come up with!
ps. skirt is not unflattering - the wide waistband really helps.
tika - i think it is sort of like that. i mean, i don't dress HORRIBLY - i like to think i still exude some kind of "i just threw this on but i know what i'm doing ok" (but maybe i do just look like a slob all the time...oh no). usually when i make a concerted effort to dress up nicely i feel awkward about it almost immediately. i'm notorious for changing back into jeans 2 minutes before leaving the house. my boyfriend hates me for it, haha. all the best in the new year to you! xo
katie - ah yes, i forgot the button ups! i even wear mine untucked. black jeans + oversized untucked button up + wrinkled cardigan covered in cat hair is a bit of a uniform for me...the lawyers i work with probably think i live on the streets. oh dear.
YES! Work wear! I need some more inspiring posts about workwear in the arsenal of blogs that I follow. I just get so bored with it.
I am in the same boat re clothing I love not translating to my personal style. (And not ever knowing how to pose for outfit photos.) (And not knowing what to wear to work.)
