i'm giving in, much to my boyfriend's displeasure, and starting to blog about my daily minutia, the things i like and whatever i bloody well want to! this blog will still serve as an accompanying piece of sorts to my two etsy shops: young captive vintage and stay home, but with lots of little things in between.
for starters, i thought i would share a little peek into what i've been working on lately. in hunting for stock for the vintage shop, i constantly find beautiful super long dresses that, while charming, aren't necessarily easily integrated into one's largely contemporary wardrobe. don't get me wrong - i love a genuine, untouched long vintage dress, but not every day. one or two in my closet does me just fine while i can never have enough minidresses. SO, i've been experimenting with my trusty sewing machine a bit and seeing what i can transform. so far i've been quite happy with the results! i wish i'd remembered to take "before" pictures of them all! i do have a few though:

i thought this maxidress was beyond amazing - it reminded me of something one of the Manson girls might have worn (eek). trouble is, i'm nearly 5'9" and even i had trouble walking around in it. a little snipping and stitching though and this is what i was left with. it's a real pity the waistband is a bit tight on me because otherwise i'd be wearing this thing all the time.

this was some kind of frilly nightgown but i loved that collar and tie-waist so much that something had to be done to make it wearable. now with short sleeves and much shorter length i would totally wear it out and about!
both of these dresses are for sale at young captive now along with a few other altered vintage dresses and with much more to come. as for this blog, i will do my very best to keep it active!
